German and Brazilian officials announced plans to open an Olympic park, the first in South America, in 2018.
The World Cup is set to be played in the summer of 2022.
The German and Brazil’s tourism associations announced plans for a new park in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in August, but did not name it.
The new park will be located in the northeastern state of Minas Gerais and will open in 2022.
A spokesman for the state tourism agency, Sergio Martins, told The Associated Press on Thursday that the park would be “the first in Brazil” to be officially opened.
The ministry of tourism, which oversees the Olympic Park, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Brazil has more than 800,000 tourists a year and has been in the Olympics since the 1970s.
Its bid to host the 2022 tournament came after a lengthy period of wrangling with other host nations over whether the games should take place in the country.
The IOC has been adamant that the Olympics should be played only in a country that hosts the 2024 Winter Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee has been working on the details of the Olympics’ location and venue, but is now likely to wait for a final decision on the location before it takes the decision to the International Olympic committee.
